My Motoros are in a 8x3x2.5 soon be be an 8x6x2.5 (have the tank but can't set it up until I move into my new house in 6months time). I feel my 8x3 is even getting small. Why people try do minimum requirements it's beyond me.

Keep less rays and give them the whole space. People get greedy and try do too much with too little.

I dont think the question is what is the smallest tank rays can be kept in, but what is the smallest rays have been bred in. That being the case, I have read many using 180g tanks to prevent the female from "dodging the bullet". There are many "tricks of the trade" (wish I could figure em out).

Its a shame you have to clear that up seeing what the title of this thread is.
i see i did mess up in the title though..change the "has" to "have"......

What you have to understand is that "what is the smallest....." is never going to get a very positive response. Even when meant in the right spirit, it just has negative connotations.

If you are looking to breed rays then you need to assume that the pups need separating from parents, ideally bear bottom for the pups for first few weeks, then you also need space to take the male away from the female if it all gets too much. Now mine are breeding the tank is wholly inadequate on its own.

Therefore I would have the 4x4 with option to separate therefore the other side for me would be empty and waiting

Side points to try and help:

Your pond will still need some big filters and depending on your level of moisture in the air you may have a lot of evaporation issues. Big rays on pellets can make the room smell without a cover.

I would personally build in some boxing around the pool and have a liner inside with it as a fail safe.

Dear Hypocrite,
answer your own question.
i mean you are slamming people for doing the exact same thing you are doing..
its called upgrading..

:duh:

Except you are effectively upgrading to a smaller tank than I am upgrading from.

I was just giving my opinion, obviously it hit a nerve with you.

I could go buy 20 rays, instead I prefer to keep less in better conditions. Each to their own. Don't get so upset with people and their opinions, everyone has one. Name calling makes you look petty and uneducated mate.

i plan on keeping no more then 5 rays in this tank all less then 14" for a year or a little more.

you telling people that its ok for you to upgrade and saying you dont understand why other people do it makes you look uneducated.

and no..i am not upgrading to something smaller then what you have...yours is 5" higher while mine is a foot wider...

and in a year to a year and a half i will be upgrading, again, to a 12'x7'x5' acrylic face tank....while the pond i am building now will be its sump....

so yeah, every opinion that sucks does, in fact, hit a never.

its funny when people slam other people and then when someone says something back..they get offended...
