ok..... in my last thread i was about to pull the trigger on some Spec but two things got me rethinking the transaction. One, the Spec has gone up form 19.99 a bag to 29.95 a bag + 24.95 shipping PER bag. :WHOA: The second is that i found a place that carries garnet sand for 20.25 and it is an hour from my residence.

So for those of you who own one or the other or have tried both, which is better? By better I mean yields the best looking polys. I have heard good things about both but have yet to read a thread that compares both.

Also, if you can, include some pics of or links to your tanks with the substrate you feel is better.

i would go with garnet, its more of a darker color red where the spectra is almost bright and you will have to mix with some black sand. just my opinion tho.

88 thanks for the pics and vids looks great. you wouldn't happen to know the grade of your sand would you?

Ok managed to check... This is grade 12/25.... Finer ones are available too...

How did you guys go about searching for suppliers of the garnet sands?

Although no relevance in ma part geographically :) but I googled for sandblast supplier and took it from there ;)

Garnet is much better.
There are different quality grades of Garnet, the more expensive has deeper color than the cheaper.

Not only do I love 100% Garnet for it's effect on the fish, but I love how heavy it is, which in turn is good for my filter.

Yeah I just Googled sandblasting + my location and found phone numbers and called. I called about 12 numbers before I found a supplier :-)
