~200 gallon tank help

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i dont nessecerily dissagree with you i just thought of it when i posted it, im trying to get a rough idea of what to do. i would like the aquarium to be roughly 7'L, 2'W, and 2'H i am figuring out what kind of canister filter i should get definately a good quality i know exactly wher it's going to go, right across from the dining table we eat at for special occasions

i know i helped my uncle do custom salt water, and they are okay with it (maybey minus the flooding, but my parents would like one). ive been saving for a little while and ive got about 200, i'm going to need the help with some presents and christmas money i'm going pay for this by myself and me and my dad are going to work on it.

Peacock bass would fill it up. Datnoids and arowanas are a good mix. Schooling fish get old when they
stop schooling together. so stay away from smaller schooling fish.

Why not just buy a 200? I bought mine used for 300. Just watch ebay and craigslist. But you will
end up with alot more money into it than you will expect.

i know i'm expecting to spend alot i spent an easy 500 at least on my little 20 gallon so i'm just looking for a little guidence from more experienced people

I have a similar size tank and these are my favoutie fish in it. All get on well and would really reccommend them - wild oscar, silver arowana, peacock bass, datnoids and clown knife fish.

Also have some cichlids in there as well - jack dempsey, angel fish, severums

is a 7', 2', 2' roughly 200 gallon big enough for an arowana i would love to have one i have been dreaming of owning one for forever, and oscars as well because they are like pets and you could hand feed them.

No.

Although some of the other fish you mentioned would fit just fine.

I have to agree with what some of the other people on here have said: at the 200gallon size I'm not sure if the tank justifies the cost/hassle of a build.

A 200+ can be had on Craigslist for under $500 easy; and most likely will come with a stand as well as possibly lights, filtration, etc. For the money and time spent it just seems (in this situation at this size) that you'd he better off buying instead of building.

Good luck with whatever direction you take and make sure to to pics with updates along the way. :)

Absolutely not big enough. I'd have to agree you really do have to crawl before you can run. You're 16 years old, slow down. When I was 16 I had a 29 gallon and was perfectly content, and that was in my living quarters not family space. I cannot imagine any middle income parents being okay with their child doing this, especially if they know anything about the magnitude of which you are planning.

Have you thought about water changes and regular cleaning? Not sure about you but when I was 16 there was about 1,000,001 other things I'd rather being doing. Planning on transporting this thing when your ready for college or move into your own apartment? Good luck, or were you just planning on leaving your parents this unwanted behemoth? On to money... $200? that's about the only singular item that will buy you for that size tank is the air pump. Do your research, add these things up it adds up QUICK. I purchased my 125 gallon tank/stand/canopies for $180 on CL minus fish to get it started I probably put another $400-500 into it and that doesn't include the things that have broke and maintenance.

Trust everyone on this, look before you leap. It's never a good idea to start on something to big, I've done things right and I've done things the wrong way as well and I can tell you from experience that you will be smarter and happier when you take your time, think things through and only do what you are truly capable of doing to begin with and that goes for everything in life, not just tanks.

I'm 14, and have a 220, 110, and a 75. I keep an NGT datnoid, Asian Arowana, Channa Pulchra, Chocolate Cichlid, future pair of oscars(prediction). No, I'm not boasting; yeah we might be young, but were not idiots. Give OP some credit taking on a big build at 16 years old! Good luck man!
