Petsmart or petco horror stories?

The problem with chain stores is the massive customer base and the amount of uneducated people who shop there. Eliminate poor customers and you eliminate most poor fish store stories along with them.

Gotta see it from both ends of the spectrum, I don't work at a petsmart but I work at a local small chain pet store. It's hard to help people when half the people plain don't listen, a quarter want it the cheapest easiest way, and the remaining think you are just trying to sell them something. Of course there are the few customers that come in and you can actually talk fish with them, I like them.

I have to agree here, at least the customer has the option of walking away and taking their business elsewhere if they don't want to deal with bad employees. An employee however is going to have to stay put and explain to an angry mother why they cannot purchase a bala shark to put in a fish bowl for her sons birthday (true story). Chain stores get every kind of customer, unfortunately that means you get people who really should not be responsible for any living thing to people who really take care of their fish and pride themselves in the work they've done. I have enough customer horror stories to fill a book, but it goes both ways.

Anyone? Stuck me with a jd, Oscar, gt, 2 parrots, sun cat, and pleco in a 55! Moved most of them out by now though. I always see poor abused oscars returned to my lfs.

They didnt stick you with anything. You bought them. Personal responcibility dude.

You go to a lfs knowing not about fish, you just think their cool and want to try a new hobby, you talk to the lfs employees who you think are professionals, so when they recommend fish and tanks you can't really argue with that, you think they know what their talking about... Can't really blame a noob that's trusting the advice of a paid employee!

But that mistake should only be made once, the idea is to learn from it. I think we have all come along way from what I consider inexperience. That being said squidyboy trusted a person he sought advice from, I'm sure he learned.

I once saw a petsmart employee net and drop an Oscar 3x in a row from about 7', the people still bought the same one..... I was stunned.
