That was when I was a no0b to fish keeping and didn't bother to look it up. I still was following the one inch a gallon rule, lol.

Exactly.... for every one or two bad stories about staff, I bet they could share a thousand or more bad customer stories.

It's easier to blame the store or others when they made mistake than to admit it.
 
Gotta see it from both ends of the spectrum, I don't work at a petsmart but I work at a local small chain pet store. It's hard to help people when half the people plain don't listen, a quarter want it the cheapest easiest way, and the remaining think you are just trying to sell them something. Of course there are the few customers that come in and you can actually talk fish with them, I like them.

I have a few friends that work at pet stores, and one of them has told me story's of people with there children coming in and getting a small 1 gal fish bowl and some gravel and they point to a clownfish and say they want that one. He said its just hard to explain exactly why you can't do that.

I would tell them it won't work, but id still sell it to them if they were like customers at my store, stubborn. My store is for the animals, and we are all pretty knowledgeable and do what's best for the pets, not the store. At least when it comes to our opinions and advice, some still won't listen, and we just let them waste their money.

I bought Mono Peacock Bass from local Petco outside of DC for $9.99 a pop and they are animals.
