3M Quartz/SpectraQuartz RED vs Garnet sand

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I found this sand at my local tractor supply for under $30, i know many of you are recommending garnet sand and so i was just wondering if this was the same thing since its designed for sandblasting? Also if it is would 80 grit be a good size?Capture.PNG

i'm sure any size would be good, except any grade that resembles your standard aquarium rocks because it could get ingested and impact you poly. How much is sand is the by the way in lbs?

Got any pics of it, dry/wet?

No I havnt picked it up yet, I was more so just posting to get opinions or to see if anyone has used this kind before. It is however 100% garnet though so there wouldn't be any glass or metal and should be completely safe assuming the edges aren't sharp

I check this out today, my verdict, im not going to use it. The reason why is it is to "fine" for me. It is finer that sugar almost a powder. so out of town i got to get a larger grade :)

Thanks for the feedback, I was going to get some this weekend but that changed my mind lol! Definitely don't want a filter clogging substrate! Have you found anything else that you would go with?

Sorry I missed that last part about you going for a larger grade! Which grade did you test that was super fine?
