3M Quartz/SpectraQuartz RED vs Garnet sand

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
the 80 mesh im going to look as some 30/60 when i go home, jax FL

Okay got the garnet sand, 30/40 instead of 30/60. I put it in my new 250 will post pics later. I must say I am very satisfied with the quality of bartons garnet sand, no need to rinse and every grain is the exact size, no dust what so ever :)

okay here are the pics of 30/40 garnet sand in my new 250

Where did you buy it from? And did it sink right away/stay on the bottom when moved around either by decor placement or fish movement? Also are there other colors? Yours looks red in the close up pics but almost white or a pale cream color in the tank shots...

sinks instantly, stays at the bottom. No, there are no other colors, this is pure crushed garnet. The color is more of a light rose, but when you get close up on it you see the deeper reds. From my research i found that the finer the grade the lighter the hue. My next bag will be 36 grit which is a larger grade. I purchased it from Corrosion Specialties Inc from their Jacksonville FL warehouse

If your in Jersey then THIS will help you out a lot more.

Thats looking sweet.... :)
When i used those aquarium lamps with the pinkish hue, the color turns nice and bright... so i used one big lamp of that and a small T5 for my plants.
This garnet is A grade... Cheers

Thanks Gar88, just got it up and running and cant wait until it cycles so i can add my polys!

Why u wait for cycle? The old tank water and the already existing filter media shoulda done the trick... Or is this a new tank altogether?
