Seen same here with my mantillas one is really large growing super fast others in middle and one is really small. But not allot of time has passed with then so far. But food so far seems to make the size .

How bout taking a different view on this? How would you explain this if it was happening in your tanks?

Say someone falls in love with marbles. Gets a big tank, sets up ponds, and more tanks. Fills the ponds and tanks with nice Marbles and notices some grow much faster then others. They point this out to other hobbysists, and get ridiculed for "stunting" thier rays, improperly housing them in too small of tanks, not feeding enough, and running inadequate filtration. You know the typical raykeeper "insults".

This thread is no different then asking people if they believe in god. Some say yes, some say no. The people that claimed to have seen or have proof believe, others stay open minded, and others point fingers at the "crazies"

Anyone that wants to come take a tour of my basement and discuss this subject with me is more then welcome. Only after seeing what I have in person would I be willing to discuss.

As far as contributing to a thread that seems to take the standpoint that mini Marbles are a jackalope, tooth fairy, santa, unicorn, or bigfoot....... Good luck. Conclusion appears to have been drawn. Hope it's the one everyone wants.

The cool thing about raising imaginary rays is the fact that you'll have room for so many more then if you were to just keep "real" rays.......

i have to admit..you are a funny guy..
seems to me that a ray that comes in WC at 7" fully rolled would pretty much speak for itself...
i have a "regular" MM only a inch and a half smaller..WC..with claspers that are only a half inch and nowhere near rolled..
i have a hard time believing that WC rays are coming in "stunted"
can anyone tell me how that can happen?
If i am ever up in Iowa i will take you up on a tour of your basement Alan.

also i have noticed that when my "mini's" eat..they look different then my other rays..
every last ray that i have ever owned....retic, hystrix, humerosa, flower, motoro, marbled motoro and leopoldi..they all get a "pregnant" look with their belly's after a good feeding.....not my mini's...their belly's get big on the bottom..the top hardly get big at all...

Anyone else want to explain that? Remember its BOTH..male and female...

this is my whole point i have 2 female p14 both born at the same time from the same litter yet one is 6-8inch big than the other so is one giant p14 or the other a mini p14

having multi rays in the same tank i would say that of course some will grow bigger than others

people have different ideas on this but i think all animals grow at different rates but with a group of rays of the same type you spot the difference in growth more than you would if you just had one

I have yet to see you argue this point with Richard, he's a believer, go tell him it's just his "imagination".

Your 6" deviation on max size in a P14 is a hell of a lot different then comparing a 2' Marble to a 8" one.

How many Marbles have you kept anyways? Obviously not enough, cause anyone that HAS kept enough know that there's clearly enough of a max size difference to warrant recognizing.

this is a really good point.
i actually did talk to Richard about his. His male is 3 and a half years if i remember correct.
that was pretty much the reason for this thread..i know my female is mature enough because she already had a pup.
I am more concerned about how long it takes a male to mature..
so far i have heard 3 years twice and a year and a half..

on a side note this thread wasnt about if there are true Mini's...its about breeding and anything else is off topic.

Aquaman45...even though i said i already talked to you doesnt mean you cant tell us about the experience you have had with breeding your mini's..
Thanks Richard.

idk my breeder wc male was no more than 10" had for about i think 3 yrs i still just think some are bigger than others bc i saw no difference from my others other than size. i could be wrong though

come on guys adult size and age of maturity are two totally different things. t1 has an unusual way of putting most things but thats what he meant too. a male ray of any type can become mature before its fully grown. that doesnt have anything to do with the adult size of the rays ( ie mini marble )

to me a mini marble would be a marble ray that stays a small size as an adult (which begs the question " how long have you had the ray yourself " )
i think to be coined a mini ray it would have to be at the very least a third smaller than regular adults of the same sex and that have actually stopped breeding

maturity is totally different as they can still grow after they mature.

and for reference i think aquaman is on holiday atm.

So, your saying that adult size and age of maturity have nothing to do with each other? Pretty bold statement there. Take the average size that a given species of ray matures and compare that to average max size and you don't see a relation? We all know there's always exceptions but we're talking "average"

So.... Your saying if the average human is 5'4 then in order for a midget to be a midget they can't be over 22" (3 times as small) tall?

Can we all agree that midgets are roughly have the size of average humans or just slightly smaller then "small" people?

Anyone ever thought to themselves "I wonder if they call them midget Marbles cause they're roughly half the size of average Marbles?"

I know one things for sure..... I feel bad for midgets. I wonder if midget people had as many disbelievers as these rays do?

I really don't understand why this subject always has so much debate. Don't believe? Go buy one that fits the description of what we call midgets and grow it up to normal size. Make people look foolish. Hell, I'm on like year 4 of it and can't seem to disprove it so maybe someone else should try. :irked:
