Ok so a few days ago I saw a couple white spots on my new red spot sevs and my initial thought is ick...so I raise the temp to 86, add salt to the tank and put a small dose of malachite green in there. Now here we are 3 days later with the white spots covering their body progressively getting worse??? Is this not ick? Should I be treating for something different? The fist pic is the present condition, the second is how he looked when I saw the first couple spots, one on his side and one on the tail fin...

I should also add that they are becoming less and less active, but are still eating, and the breathing is more rapid than before but that could be the higher temps?

Some strains of ich are resistant to meds and heat, althought very rare some strains of ich have reproduced at over 90 degrees. I read this in an article while I was doing research about my own tough to kill ich. After 7 days of normal treatment I raised the temp to 91 and did a full treatment of malachite green. I lost 2 fish in the process but the ich was gone with in three days though my tank was horribly stained.

I am by know means an expert and just sharing my experience take it with a grain of salt.

I would either treat with heat and salt or treat with meds but not both. It really depletes the oxygen in the water.

I have two air pumps running 4 bubblers on the tank for oxygen, and I have heard some people say to use both heat and meds and others say don't, my concern is that if I remove one or the other at this point that the ick will overrun the tank completely. I would turn the temps up higher but can sevs handle temps over 90??

Do a 50% water change, keep temp at 86 and add salt, I agree with countryboy don't do both salt and temp or meds and if using meds remove carbon from your filters

Thank you for the input everyone! I did a 50% water change, and I'm going to just do the salt/heat treatment. What I still don't get is that I Have been treating for 3 days now and it's still progressively getting worse. Any other time I have has fish get ick they things would have started clearing up by now or at least stop things from getting worse...

The heat speeds up the life cycle. The parasite can only be killed when a swimming organism. When swimming the high temp. will kill them.
