My Bds/ tank update

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ohh Also never really seen this tank before. What's the size? Inches feet or centimeter whatever works I'll do the math to find out what works for me. Very nice tank. Also sump pic setup details or Maybe a thread with info of setup I would love to read.

I'll go ahead and throw out my opinion on BDs....

I don't think most of the people on this site (me included) tell the diffrence between pure BD and hybrids. This day and age of the internet allows us to look at everyone else's rays. Bigger spots are considered more desirable. So these "BDs" we are used to seeing are the big spot BDs, but who knows what they really are. People have theorized for years that they are BD Hens crossed back to BD. We are so used to seeing this stuff that the real WC BDs are now "BDxLeos" to the trade cause they don't look as nice as the big spots.

No different then fake boobs..... If they look nice and the price is right then why not get some? But without really knowing, there's no way of knowing what's real and what's man made.

Agreed. Ive seen CB BD/Leo with and without perimeter spotting. What was being imported straight from Sao Felix as WC BD several years ago would now be called a BD/Leo when posted as an ID my ray thread in a lot of instances.

+1. I think it all started with motoro henlie Leo mixes. Someone found a mix and it was black and mixed back to a leo and we have what we call black diamonds. ]

You're joking right? Motoros have nothing to do with making nice black mutts.

Black Diamonds = Leos caught out of the Sao Felix. We all can agree on that and most of us have been around long enough to have seen what WC imported BDs look like.

However, (Just my opinion) I can't help but think that all the truley nice WC BDs would go to the countries that actually pay good money for rays - meaning NOT the US. Maybe these higher quality BDs can yield these crazy "Big Spot" BDs when CB, but I think it's easier for us to justify if we just call BS and label them hybrids cause they are just too nice to be pure. Easier to call "cheater" then to acknowledge we get what we pay for.....

Also look StingrayED's blackie. Known mutt, yet sure meets several of the criteria associated with pure BD. I personally think that ray is proof that we don't know as much as we think about BDs, as I think that ray is nicer than most of the pure BDs I've ever seen.

Nice ray tank!!! And awsome bds!! How long have u had them? What part of the world did u get them from their super nice specially the TI one.

Guy who got this one was told it was a motoro Leo mix. So you tell me. May be true may not be. Could be also henlie mix. But still could be some motoro mix. I mean think about all the spots around the edge of the disks on motoros could pass over to the pups. Take this ray then breed it back to a Leo. Just like anything take rays or fish or cows and breed the best traits together and get what you exactly want. Why not in the wild were talking about hundreds or years to mix. Another ray might have mixed in somehow. Anything is possible really.

No, not anything is possible. Half the time raykeepers that have rays breed don't know who the parents are. They "think" they know, that's passed along, never questioned, and taken as the truth. People spend a year or 2 looking at ray pics and all of a sudden they think they can tell what species were crossed to make a certain ray. Truth is you can't. Nobody knows what half these things out there are and pretending to just ends up making people look silly in the long run.

Only you would find a way to bring fake boobs up in a BD thread LOL!

Turkey, what kind of concrete mix you using to cover the background and what are you going to seal it with? Sweetwater Epoxy Clear?
