I'm setting up an American cichlid aquarium and was wondering what type of plants would work well with them. I'd like to have some Dwarf Grass, a couple Madagascar Lace Plants, and maybe Some Flame Moss attached to a large piece of Driftwood. Any ideas and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

What Cichlids are you thinking about? IME, plants do not last in a Cichlid tank. Unless you have small Cichlids, like Rams, Dwarfs, etc.. the small ones. And then it is still a big, ?.

I currently have:

1 Red Devil
1 Festae (Red Terror)
1 Male Convict
1 Female Jewel
1 Green Terror
2 Jack Dempsey
2 Sveni (Pike)
1 Common Pleco
1 Orange Spotted Pleco

All going into a 100 gallon until they outgrow it.

Its not that they bother them because they are hungry, they bother them cause thats what they do and they can. Be prepared to completely clean your intakes on whatever type of filtration you have, when they destroy everything. :)

yeah between a friend and I we have owned all of those and they dont treat even fake plants well for the most part. If you want plants, do a growth bed or a refugium, otherwise you'll probably just end up with a mess. If you want to do it anyhow, just pick something fast growing because they'll probably get picked apart once the fish establish themselves amongst the plants

Hope you got a bigger tank for when your fish start hitting 6"... Anyways for plants you can try java fern and Anubias wedged into a bed of large rocks, or try an amazon sword in the sand with rocks over the sand. Proper lighting will also give the plants a better chance of staying strong.

I had some anubias that my pasionis liked to nibble on, it seemed to hold up. They grow fast but you need enough of them so that the fish dont focus on one plant, gives thema fighting chance to grow back before they get targeted again. then again my pasionis were pretty small at the time

Out of your stocklist the only cichlids that would do good with plants are your pikes. The rest will go out of their way to destroy anything in their way.
