where the trunk is damaged there was another branch comming off. somebody ripped it off it looks like instead of cutting it. its kind of like cutting a plummeria. wherever you cut will scar and a new branch should form. looks like what you have there is a cutting off the side of another plant. it was ripped of the other plant then rooted in another pot. you can clean up the side but cutting the dead away in a uniform matter. you can cut the dead leaves off even the ones that are browning. dont go too crazy were comming into fall and growing season is over. dont want to shock the plant. wish i had one of these so i could make a vid and show you. it would be easier to explain.

I understand some if what your saying but I don't know what a plummeria is. After the 5th sentance I have no idea what your talking about. So this tree was cut off another larger tree or a branch was cut of this little tree? **cut what dead away? What's dead? And also I will make sure to snip off those Browning leaves.

Read it slowly 5 times. I understand everything hes trying to explain to you. ;)

see the plants trunk kinda looks like a big Y if you cut straight down and divide the roots youl have 2 plants. looks like somebody kinda did that but in a not so gentle way. also when you divide the plant it opens up the plant. scar tissue will form and doesnt always look pretty especialy if the plant is just ripped away instead of cut with say a saw, hacksaw.

thanks alot for the compliment.
well, that's an impressive ID!
and the pics in that link are cool. a healthy plant is pretty.
biggles could cut a new growth in spring, & get a lush plant from that... or no?

a whole year to recover before cutting a piece off? I mean even if saving that main plant wasn't a consideration?
I thought those types of plant cuttings were easy :-/ as in, almost impossible to kill.
