I'm think about growing out some bass, but just wanted to gauge what people have seen or experienced on loss ratio on these small 2-3" bass. I understand that you always shoot for 100% success but as fish keepers we all know anything can happen.

Locally I can get Tems, Monos, Ocells, and Kels; so I was thinking about getting one of each, but I've been debating about getting two of each incase I lose one. I calculated it out to be about $70 per set of 4. Seems like a good deal to me even though I can't tell the difference between juvi bass and I'm just going by what they have them labeled as.

Well thanks for reading my rant and if you have any input I'd appreciate it.

Keep temps at 83-88 degrees, feed well and you should have 100% success rate. I've kept many pbass as growouts and have not had any casualties.

Tems grow about 2-3x faster than any of the bass you mentioned.

Keep your temps at 86-87, highly airated water and reg water changes and feedings and you will be fine.

Sounds good. I'll have to get my tank rack up and running this weekend. Tems are the reason I'm getting into the peacock bass game, so I'll have a transition tanks ready.

Can someone confirm that these are temensis for me?

It sounds like you have a good ideal on what you want too accomplish. There I no magic answer for caring for juvenile peacock bass under three inches. There are skittish so keep from looking on tank close it causes stress then they could die. Sounds crazy but its true. Focus there diet on blood worms , that works well. Keep temp at 80 not 84. Hope for best. Don't do water change for two weeks after you get them. Good luck.

The secret of keeping cichla under three inches IS KEEPING THE TEMP HIGH. Keeping the temp high increases a faster metabolism and increase in feeding behavior.

x2 at that size they get ick very easily, keeping the temp at 84+ helps to avoid it, and like hayn said boosts their metabolism to help them to grow fast to get out the fragile stage.
