FISHING SEASON 2K12!!!!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well I went Thursday and Friday.

Thursday was DEAD DEAD DEAD. Literally as dead as Ive ever seen it, didnt even see the first dolphin which has NEVER happened. I did manage about a twelve pound snapper but bottom fishing with live cigs for a couple hours and you only go through a few baits is just unheard of. I also got a bobo on the troll.

My buddy got a bobo as well as a nice flounder which was a pleasant surprise.

Friday wasnt much better but we had some excitement to say the least. First spot I brought up a thirty five inch bull red and then things got....interesting.

I was with two friends and one starts mumbling and pointing, "guys, ugh...uhmmm...awww...uhmmm..." we are thinking he is seeing a cobia or perhaps a mahi that came up to say hi but he couldnt get the words out. Then suddenly we see this big dorsal fin just as a seven to eight foot tiger shark bumps his kayak and bites his bait tube!

I throw a cigar minnow with a king rig on seventeen pound test and I go for a Nantucket sleigh ride. The line breaks after a few minutes though.

After the tiger things died down and we moved to another spot about three quarters of a mile away. We troll either plugs or live cigs in between spots and when we get there to bottom fish we reel up the lines but leave the live cigs just barely dangling in the water so they stay alive.

My buddy pulls up a legal trigger but not much else. Meanwhile Im bottom fishing and hear a little splash on the other side of me. I look over just in time to see a solid eight foot tiger with his head out of the water grabbing my cig!! I crank up my bottom rig and take off pedaling full speed in part to set the hook and to get away from the monster. This spooked the shark and he went ape **** coming out of the water just a couple feet from me.

I grab the rod, again with just seventeen pound test and the sharks tows me around at over three miles an hour. After about twenty minutes I get the beast yak side up to the leader. Obviously this four to five hundred pound fish wasnt beat but a leader is a catch lol. After about a minute top side the shark sounded very quickly smoking my reel and I grabbed the spool to pop the line. The spool was hot to the touch after that run!

Hooking into two big tigers from a yak in the same day was awesome. The rest of the day was really slow and we tried another couple spots. Nothing much to show except several black nose and atlantic sharp nose sharks. My buddy that got the trigger did manage a flounder so at least he had dinner.

Here is a video of the first shark.

i bet that was fun gettin dragged around, nice video JD that shark is a hoss!

Went out this weekend and completely filled my tackle box. Spent about $50 and it's overflowing now. Got a bunch of new strike worms. Got these great salamander worms that are amazing! It was 42 degrees out. I went out in jeans, my muck boots, and a thin 3mm sportsman jacket. I was literally shaking from cold! Didn't have any other jackets with me so I couldn't do any better. So i sat out there for 1–3 hours at a time. On my kayak and from shore. So i got two bass, and a couple pumpkin seed. Left my phone inside for the pumpkin seed, but every one I caught had blue eyes, and light blue speckles. I guess it's winter coloring. But I have a picture of the bigger bass I got uploadfromtaptalk1352148032518.jpg
My hands were bright red and I was shaking because of cold. Got some new bait and stocking up on jigs for ice fishing. Can't wait for ice fishing. Gonna stock my pond up with about 300 yellow perch. I know a nearby place to get them from. So gonna try to go and get as many yellow perch as I can. Gonna throw in some bullhead right after winter.

^ check your fishing regulations about catch and bring 300 perch home to stocking them into the pond. Also I wouldn't stocking the bullheads in the pond as they can get overpopulated easily.

We have bullheads in there already. Just not enough. I love fishing bullheads. And we would probably cook a couple although I don't eat my catches often. The pond is my mom's friends. Actually it's his parents pond. They had an overrun in yellow perch and the whole pond is entirely yellow perch from what I hear. They said you could catch and take every single fish you want. Planning on bringing about three 5 gallon buckets and just completely filling them with yellow perch. Or a cooler or two and entirely fill those. What could I catch yellow perch on? I hear minnows are all they bite on. Not sure where to get as many minnows as I'll need.

Be careful with Yellows they will populate until they start to die off from lack of food and bioload. There was a water hazard a recently shut down golf course here that someone stocked illegally with perch, now the thing is packed with them and they are very over populated. i usually catch perch with minnows eye or head and small bits of worms on a jig.

Personally I think you shouldn't messing the pond around. Yellow perch and bullheads are not very good fish for the ponds as both can easily overpopulating the pond with no problems. They often become stunted and the fishery in the pond is ruined and must be poisioned/drained then start over with new fishes minus bullheads/perches.

Largemouth bass and channel catfish should be excellent sportfish for a pond.
