'Geophagus' crassilabris ~ Progression Thread

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Crassilabrus and pellegrini are among the largest of the red hump complex , steindachneri the smallest...

According to South American Eartheaters (Weidner) pellegrini reach 25 cm, crassilabris and steindachneri can both reach 20 cm. I think Justin meant that they are smaller than many species of Geophagus in general, not that crassilabrus are the smallest of the Red-Humps.

Jeff rapps had the blue acara last time I ordered from him, he said it was one of his favorite. Talked me into getting some but didn't send them due to a case of ick and I never got back.

Love my steind's colors are awsome, and very unique mating rituals, to me looks like they are vacuuming the sand with their mouths, and yelling at each other. Iv never seen the crassilabris can't wait to see them mature.

^ Dan is correct, sorry I was not more specific.

Me too Jeremy. I am curious to see the spawning rituals with this species. There's a 99% likelihood it's the same as the rest in the complex but you never know, we'll see.

Wow Justin, I love this thread!

Here in Israel, crassilabris is like bigfoot! Everybody claims to see them, but no one can provide a proof. lol

Good luck and we want more pics!

Thanks Alon! They are no less rare here. I've been searching for a long time.

Indeed. More pics soon!!!

New pics will be post xmas. The wife is getting me a speedlight and these guys are impossible to shoot without on.

How are these doing?

They are about double in size now. I believe I have 3 males and 4 females. I lost one the first week I had them for no reason. The red in the dorsal is amazing!

Looking forward to more pics. Thinking of picking some of these up.
