Canister or 2 AC's

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The xp3 is a better choice, the xp4 is not worth the extra money. Research actual flow rates, the xp3 is about 185 gph while the xp4 is only about 190 gph. Not worth the extra money for just the extra media capacity, yet basically the same flow rate.

I have some homework to do. Gonna wait on the free impeller and possible free manifold from Marineland before I click the "go to check out" on a canister.

The Filstar XP XL has an advertised flow rate of 450gph. The XP L has 350gph. Are you saying that once filled with max media the flow rates are almost even? Maybe due to the 4th media drawer in the XL?

Wanted to chime in. Love the tanks, wish I could get mine to look that good:). Also Swandog in just my opinion this is a tuff thread. Of your choices here you can't go wrong with any of them. Not having owned the Rena I can't comment on GPH on that brand itself. But, most filters are going to give you about half when filled with media and what that media is also makes a difference. If you are willing to spend the extra $$$ I'd still go with one of the Canisters the AC110 is a great filter but still does not have the media volume of a canister on the other hand its also cheaper. I may get flamed for this but I have read many times that the AC110's motor can be noisy it's hit or miss many use vasaline or silicone to help quiet it down. I expect some noise from my aquarium buy its very nature of moving the water. And the FX5 is a beast it will handle just about anything you could throw at it, the flow from it is awesome. So, take your pick here I don't think you will go wrong its always the $$$ willing to be spent:naughty:.
