To breed with male

She is kicking his butt, major fin damage, divider in place atm.
I have tried allowing them together for small observed time periods, he displays full fins and doulbes his colors. They have liplocked for a bit, then swim next to each other for a bit but eventually it turns into a turn and bit contest and the female chasing the male to the top of the water line and he hides defeated.

Hey I have been researching this because my Fh is showing signs of breeding with my Dovii. From what I have gathered many people recommend the female being considerably smaller than the male due to her very aggressive breeding behavior just prior to spawning. Not sure, but both of your fish look close in size, maybe the male can't handle the females berserk mode. (To be honest I can relate, no one can handle their wife's berserk mode when berserk time arrives.) Not sure if this helps but maybe you could look into it further, either way I wish you good luck because they are some awesome looking fish and should make some very interesting fry.

Oh yeah, my fish are also close in size and the Fh can completely stand up to the male Dovii. They both are taking/giving a beating. She is tough, even though she showed no signs of aggression before this all started.

She is actually a bit bigger then him, I'm finding the same in research that the female is smaller. I am hoping that with time (1 year maybe) that feeding her normal (ofc) and feeding him a bit more then her every time that he will grow larger then her. I have also partitioned the tank to be 20% for her and 80% for him. I'm not sure what the fry would like but am hopeful for handsome fry ofc. Would like to see your dovi and fh they could make some interesting fry also. Thanks for response, this is my first time breeding egg layers and south american cichlids.

Can they co-habitat in the same tank? I have to use a divider or he would of been fishfood.

This is them together before the Heavy Metal Music kicked in! So you can see size comparison..

Yeah they live together in a divided 1/3rd of my 220 for about a month now. They fight a lot but no egg tube yet from the female. She is getting much more aggressive though, so maybe its coming soon. It may or may not pan out, Im just crossing my fingers. Either way they aren't trying to kill each other when they fight, the male has just put in a lot of work clearing the bottom for some eggs and he's trying desperately to lure her down there. They lip lock all day but she's not shown any real interest in the site he's chosen. Im hoping when the tube comes down she will give in. I just can't seem to figure out how often that should happen for flowerhorns. I guess we are both in the trial and error stage of breeding these guys. Heres hoping we both get lucky with no casualties. By the way hat tip for your tank maintenance, looks awesome, good lighting, clean, great fish. Your a credit to the hobby. Good luck buddy.

Your a step a head of me, your will live together. Ill add you as friend and check up on the statues later, If i get a break through Ill let u know, do the same.

Question: I hear 2 methods
1. Add another female and let the male choose (being that my female is dominant I don't think this would work
2. Placing her DIVIDER male(one u want to breed) DIVIDER male (smaller non-dominate male)
