My newest addition: Fahaka pufferfish

Yea I would definitely be careful when handling it. On another note, make sure you feed him plenty of food with the shell on like shrimp or crayfish. This will help keep his teeth trimmed.

Btw, when it comes to puffers and moving them, its best to coax them into a bucket or container and then transfer them to a new tank, since if they gulp air, they may not be able to expel it and die...

Also, since they are scaleless fish, best to keep touching them to absolute min if you must, since the oils from your fingers / hands can irritate their slime coats...

They arent that rare, but they arent cheap. I have seen them in pet stores around here (vancouver) for as little as $49 and as high as $65
 
Does anyone know how to sex them? The previous owner had no idea and just assumed it was a male.

also, has anyone in here been successful in breeding them?
 
No way to sex them unless they lay eggs or you do an autopsy...

As for breeding, some people have tried, but due to their extremely aggressive nature either one or both die before actually mating...

Interesting... so they must be kept alone right? If I put any cichlids in with him, will he eat them? or just kill them?
 
The only way I know mine is a female, is that she has laid eggs 2 times. Otherwise it is impossible to tell. Your fahaka will 99% kill any other larger fish in their tank.

What about fish smaller than himself? I have tons of cichlids up to 5"
