very nice. looks very similiar to my wild caught one. yours might be a male because its showing elongated extentions on the tip of the dorsal fin.

Either way you can't loose with these guys. Males and females alike get huge and gourgous. Very nice

Its funny but your original picture of the fish in 2009 looks very similar to mine with the tube dropped. It really is kind of hard to tell with these fish but I took a guess mine is female, I did have a male at one point and the tube did look smaller in diameter. I have never took it out to vent, just an educated guess form having a few of these over the past couple years.

Thanks. I never did really vent him. I just guessing male but i could be way off base. Not to sure how big he is. its been a little over a year since i put a measureing tape down. lol but the last time i measured he was close to 12 inches. I know he bigger then that now Maybe more like 15-16 inches. A great fish to have. I think they are underrated for what they are. For the most part a very peaceful giant but willing to hold there own if need be.
I just got mine at the beginning of October this year and it was barely 5" and my hoga was a good 1"+ bigger. She is now bigger than the hoga and must be at least 8". I think she has grown about 1 1/2" per month! Like you said very peaceful giant.
