Small to medium sized monitors

All Australian species are illegal to export, including Ackies.. The individuals captive bred outside of Australia are perfectly legal though. Expensive, but legal.

I gotta say I'm partial to Ackies! I have a trio of them and I must say they're the most fun, interesting and intelligent reptiles I've ever kept.

Once I get out of my apartment and into my house I will be getting a trio of Ackies. Right now they are the go-to. You can find them for $300 or so (higher for bright color morphs). IMO they are probably the best all around smaller monitor to keep.

Other smaller monitors:

Timors - Bigger than ackies, largely arboreal, and difficult to handle. More common. CB are available
Trees - Same/slightly smaller than Ackies. Completely arboreal. Some are downright nasty. Quite colorful though. Bought the same price as ackies.
Storri - Smallest monitor I know of being somewhat available. Back when i kept monitors they could be had for $500. Now, forget it...$1000 minimum. Very rare and hard to find. Get aggressive as they age. However...most are under 12" !!

Any chance of breeding them?

I'll know in about a month. Their final cage is about 3/4 done (I'm in the process of finishing up the rock wall background). Hopefully they'll all get along nicely once introduced together. The male and females cages are next to each other so they've had months to check each other out.

Where are timor monitors more common than ackies?:O

Anywhere really. If you go on more than a few classifieds (ie: Kingsnake) you see they have a couple for sale, only a few ackies. I'm sure both are just as available if you know where to look. To my knowledge Timors are still being imported where as Ackies are all CB.

Well you are probably right since on kingsnake I've seen quite a few timor monitors and rarely ackies.
Here in Germany, you never get timors but ackies very often and a lot cheaper than in the US. They are even more common than Savs here.

That's cool.I might want to be placed on the waiting list.
