Small to medium sized monitors

I'll know in about a month. Their final cage is about 3/4 done (I'm in the process of finishing up the rock wall background). Hopefully they'll all get along nicely once introduced together. The male and females cages are next to each other so they've had months to check each other out.
Pics! How are you constructing the background?

Well you are probably right since on kingsnake I've seen quite a few timor monitors and rarely ackies.
Here in Germany, you never get timors but ackies very often and a lot cheaper than in the US. They are even more common than Savs here.

The hobby in general is interesting in terms of how it progresses. I'm almost 30 and started keeping herps/fish when I was like 13-14. For example, when i started there was a FLOOD of Day Geckos. Now...not so much. Cresteds were pretty rare and I remember seeing them for $300-$400 a pop. Now you can get them 50% off at Petco for $25. Back then there was a TON of indo area monitors in the hobby. Blue tails, Mangrove, Waters, Crocs. Now that NY has the animal bans, I don't see as much. Just the occasional savannah.

Its actually kinda cool to see how the hobby goes through phases.

Another example: Tree Monitors. Back 10-15 years ago they were like the crown jewels. If you saw ONE on Kingsnake it was a surprise. Now there's a ton.

Should be getting a storr, but can I just house a male and female only? What's the setup?
If you are going to house multiple storr's together, you'll need to raise them from babies in the same cage. Introduce two adult or subadult storr's and soon you will have only one. As far as care, it's pretty much the standard monitor setup. Around a foot of moist sandy soil for burrowing, stuff to climb on, basking spot of around 140F or so, etc.

Sorry Sean, I missed this post earlier. I'm constructing a fake rock wall background using foam board and Great Stuff spray foam insulation. I finished carving it out today and I just applied the first layer of tile grout to it. Only 6-7 more coats to go! I'm hoping to have it pretty much done by next weekend. I'm basically building it the same way as my old cages, just with more tile grout layers and a lot deeper soil substrate for them to dig and lay eggs in.

You may find that tile grout isn't tough enough to withstand the abuse of monitors. I know the products are similar, but concrete seems to work much better.

I've been debating on using a layer of hydraulic cement under a couple layers of tile grout. In the past I put down 4-5 layers of grout and in a few spots the ackies were able to dig down to the foam and I had to patch it up. I figured adding 7+ layers of grout might help but maybe I'll grab some cement while it's still early in the process.
