Tank prepped and ready for TATF (in transit)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
OK, so here's the super blurry Sasquatch shots of him in the bag getting acclimated. I couldn't get any clearer shots, my phone's camera isn't too great and combined with the fact this guy doesn't sit still for ANYTHING, this is as good as it gets for now. I'll get some better in-tank pics tonight once he's all settled in. I'm going to give him a few hours of alone time and not even go in the room, he seems fine as is now, but it can't hurt anything. Last time i peeked in there he was in the center of the tank swimming against the current. Looking great so far!!

Quick video shot from my phone, at least you can see how tiny he is compared to the Buenos Aires tetra lol. He's not super shy, he goes to the corner when I walk in too fast, but then he comes right back out into the middle of the tank to swim against the current. I guess I'll need to make the long drive to a real LFS, since only Petsmart and Petco are nearby and neither sells feeder guppies (only the bigger goldfish). I don't think the mollies I have in there are small enough, his mouth is tiny right now. I may need to just stock up on guppies for now and dump them in there...

i would try frozen silversides, or better yet pellets right away.... but dont starve if since he's new, but in my experience fish are more apt to try different foods when they are new to a tank.... if you start giving him live now, he'll be harder to break later.... just saying to try, he might surprise you, but if he shows no interest, then i'd say do live to help acclimate him

I do have some silversides for my serras, I'll try to chop some up and give him some. Good idea, I'll let you know how it goes.

How did I miss this!

Great looking little fella! He looks vigorous and healthy. Mine won't touch dead food, he's too young and skittish still. In the five weeks I've had him he's grown about an inch and is pushing four inches now. When he was that size, he couldn't eat rosies yet, I had to give him guppies. Now, he can eat the largest of rosies. I ensure that he always has feeders in his tank so he can power feed at his leisure. He will NOT eat with the lights on, btw. When my guy gets to be about five inches long he's going in the big tank and he'll starve till he figures out to eat pellets.

Does your guy show any blue on the fins yet? It's not too obvious in the videos, but then again digital media is known for not capturing colors well. :/

Great looking little guy. I look forward to comparing our fish as they grow as they're from the same batch. :)

edit-

Here's mine in the bag for comparison's sake. It took a couple days before he was settled in enough to show colors. Yours looks to have a larger, showier tail. Should be really impressive as he gets bigger! My tatf's tail has gotten larger and showier as he's gotten bigger, but yours is VERY impressive already! ;)

Thanks, I appreciate it! Yours looks much fatter than mine did when he came in, although I do see the difference in the tail size you're talking about.

I went down to the closest LFS I could find that had feeder guppies this afternoon, and got 15 of them. Dropped them all in, and he had one in his mouth before I even closed the lid. I had my wife and both the kids in the room with all the lights on, and he proceeded to eat 3-4 more within the next 45 seconds. It was amazing lol.

I haven't fed live to a fish in years, but he's so small I don't want to risk starving him to get him off of live just yet. I plan on breaking up some massivore pellets (if I can ever find a *(&#$ store that sells it, or I guess I'll just have to order online) and seeing if he'll eat that along with the guppies, since Wes said he was feeding them massivore occasionally.

He's not skittish at all as of yet, I can walk into the room and he'll go to the glass for a second or two, then he goes back to his spot in the middle and then just swims in the current while twitching slightly side to side and barking at me. I'm super happy with him so far, hopefully he puts on some size quickly, especially if he eats as much as he did today on a regular basis.
