Who said UV do nothing

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Nice to see T1 on here! I totally agree and have noticed that I need to change my bulbs and cleaner replace the sleeves. Everyone thinks their tank is clean until they see cleaner.

Clear tank this, clear tank that.... A UV IS FOR MUCH MORE THAN WATER CLARITY!! I have never had trouble with clear water without a UV, and still have very clear water with a UV, but rays seem much healthier with a UV, so that is why you should run one.

A cheap pond UV clarifier will clear water, but a good UV with properly sized dosage will sterilize, keeping the chances for bad stuff to get started much lower.

The sleeves are £10 I changed mine the other day as you know t1.
I have 2 uv on my 7x3x27.
1 is not enough on a tank over 7ft and 3ft wide.
👍

Imagine what a nice UV with 5-10X the kill rate yours has would do.....

I'll tell you what's rubbish, to say all UVs are created equal. I'm a firm believer in you get what you pay for. Why spend thousands on rays and tanks then skimp so much on UV?

Obviously cheap is better then nothing, but I still believe that daisy chaining little ones isn't going to produce a kill rate like one that's designed for a system that large.

You talk such rubbish sometimes the type of UV I use are probably the best home UV on the market in the UK they are made by TMC again they make some of the best kit on the market in the UK

A well designed UV system can do a good job if set up correctly and maintained well I just got lazy with mine and the results are easy to see

If you want to go and spend thousands on a high tech unit that will do as good a job as mine then go for it BUT my videos show mine does a great job when working well like now so I have proof what you call a cheap budget system can do
You call it budget but TMC is a name well respected within Europe in the marine hobby

EXACTLY they think there tanks are clear but there are levels of clear
The clear they state probably has a green tint that's toned down by a blue or black background

Like I said the UV probably kill some bacteria that hits a tank hard when the UV is turned off but my tank may have turned clear again well what some call clear after the bacteria bloom had dropped again

But hey when DB wants to stop moving his tanks around and spends thousands on a high end UV we will never know how great the big money units are

You seem to be an expert on UV, let's share numbers.... What exactly is the kill rate you're running? Do you even know? Or are you just assuming you have the "best" thing available? How can you say something is "better" then something else without crunching the #s? Videos aren't gonna compare #s.

I don't need to go spend thousands to know how well a UV works, if you know someone who actually knows and designs UVs they can simply crunch the numbers I don't understand and put them into terms I can understand.

Hope you enjoyed the pics I posted of my lil stunted midget rays that don't exist..... :)

It doesn't matter when the overpriced UV is installed or what it does, cause sounds to me like your mind is already made up. Who am I to argue? Nobody wants to listen to someone who talks so much rubbish...... ;)

Why do I need to know kill rate the company who make the UV units have done that for me as that's there job

Mine must be working as how many rays have I lost in over 20 years mmmmm none how many have you lost ?

My rays breed all the time how many have you bred ?

My water is always spot on with the exception of this one time when I got lazy if you can call losing both your legs lazy I call it a little set back

You know, I have never nor will I ever attack you as a ray keeper. I have much more respect for people then that.

This hobby is full of useless nonsense. How are we supposed to know the truley right answers to anything if people run around saying this is "better" then that when there is NO hard proof (numbers) that can be compared.

I never claimed to know squat about UV. I never even believed in it till I talked to people that do seem to know. I started asking questions and ignoring all the this is better then that BS. When the people I talked to couldn't answer my questions I contacted the manufacturer that could. The guy I talk to is very knowledgable and explains things to me. Does this make me an expert? Nope. But I did enough research to know there's many misconceptions about it. I simply sought out the answers to my questions without leading people into thinking my opinion is fact.

If you think you are a better ray keeper then me that's fine. You must be, your rays breed and you've never killed any rays. But if you think that means you can turn your opinion into fact then you are not worth the time to even talk to. If it makes you feel better to run me into the ground cause my track record with rays isn't as good as yours that's fine too. Shows everyone on here what kind of person you are.

This isn't about what UV is best, it's about getting answers to understand the things we don't. You may know everything you need to know since you've been doing this so long, but I still consider myself very new to the hobby and I will remain in the hobby for a long time cause in 5 years I haven't even come close to beginning to understand, and even 20 years down the road I will still not consider myself an expert nor will I ever quit learning about better ways to take care of my animals.

You might think I'm trying to prove I'm smarter or more knowledgable then you but in reality you couldn't be further from the truth, like I said I'm a newbie that can't breed rays and I'm lucky to go a year without losing any, I have no problem admitting I'm far from an expert and have a lot to learn, but when it comes to things I don't understand I bust my butt to try to learn. Always have and always will.

My point in all this is it's foolish to be so narrowminded that you can honestly pass judgement on something as being a waste of money. All I was implying is how do you know it's NOT worth the money? Thechnology is moving fast these days. What worked 20 years ago may still work, but I gaurentee there's people out there earning a living building things better then they used to. Those people strive to make past products obsolete.

I wouldn't wait for a phone call from me, as after your last few remarks I have absolutely nothing to discuss with you.
