Where's my car members? I need some help.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
When you replaced the master did you bleed from the master cylinder or did you bleed from the caliper? If you bled from the caliper then your going to have to bleed the whole system. Get the green fluid out.

ok lets start at the top and break it down.

You said its an 02 that means its new enough to have a safety check valve so it doesnt matter if you blead the front or back first. But before you do that I would do a gravel check first. Find a gravel road or parking area get it up to about 8mph 10 at the most and slam the brakes. Get out and check the skid. System working right you should see skips on all 4 tires usually a little less in the rear.
If you dont see skips on one set you know where to start. Bleed that side try again.

On a side note you said that you swapped out the master did you do the drake boster at the same time as when they die braking is worse when the engine is running.

Also your car would have a vacume assisted brakeing system check the hose and connections from the booster to the engine. Also watch for an inline check valve some times they fail giving no vacume boost

I don't think the master cylinder was the problem now that we replaced it so that was my first waste of money my knowledge is slim when it comes to brakes so its what I first thought of.

Bench bled the master before installation then bled the fronts

If this was a vacuum assist problem I would be left with a hard pedal instead of a sluggish one if I'm not mistaken.

Are you sure the wheel cylinders in the rear are not leaking?

Ok so here's what I got so far

-Master cylinder replaced so that's no longer a problem
-no visible leaks or fluid loss when pumping brakes
-soft squishy pedal, not hard so no vacuum problem in booster

What needs to be done
-check rear brakes for leaks since I didn't do them myself
-bleed brake system to flush air out which I assume is the problem. Do you guys agree?
