Help with Pacu and New Tank Syndrome

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
yeah, I have some of that perfect PH stuff... if it's so perfect, why is it 6.0? LOL... I have pretty hard water and have never had any issues in the past. If it keeps dropping, I'll have to look into that. thanks Ecoli...

I'll have to post some pics once this NTS passes. He really is a beast and I've had him for 21 years. Just don't want anything to happen to him...

I don't know what brand of bacteria that is but my friend used one meant for ponds because they were much cheaper for the amount and he said it pretty much reduced his ammonia to 0 from higher than what you have in a 600 gallon tank he started by transferring the sump media and old water from his 180. He was also dosing prime and doing wC to keep it under control but the addition of bacteria in the bottle did it.

Of course he lost some fish during that time but at least it's stable now.

Keep us posted on him.........good luck to you and your monster... looks like your getting good help..

thanks everyone, photos to come once all gets straight and I can actually work on the tank without freaking the old man out. he's 21, gotta take him out drinking soon. LOL.

thats so neat... pacus are my favorite of all fish... i just love their happy cheerful personality... and they almost dance when they are excited.. so good to hear that you kept your boy all these years... please keep us updated ...our thoughts go out to you.. but he should be okay..

thanks red devil... and yeah, he is full of personality and he does his wiggle dance when he wants to eat. he's still doing it, he just won't eat. soooooo frustrating. not a really fun fish to scare, unless you want a shower that is... and i'm still waiting on the glass top for the tank so you can bet I walk lightly around the tank. LOL.
