started with a 10 gallon, bugged my mom to get me, her boyfriend at the time went to wally world ( yes i still call it that LOL ) and got the tank at midnight, set it up the next day, my mom goes out and gets not one but TWO........... pacus... loved the fish ( at the time i didnt know they could get HUGE ) and that was 11 years ago.... went from a 10 gallon to two 10 gallons to a 20 gallon ( well was my moms and mine ) then a 20 long which busted in my room ( mom was NOT happy.. ) then after my mom past ( some may remember that thread i made about my mom ) i got a 29 with the money my dad gave me after my moms funeral, then went from a 29 to a 29 and 10, then went from a 29 to two 29s two 20s two 10s one 5 one 75 ( maybe a few more i am forgeting ) back down to one 29.... then moved back in with my grandma, went from a 29 to a 75 ( ah forget it, lived with my grandma many times, while living there i had a 29, 75, 110, not all at the same time though, one tank each time i lived there ) and now forward to now.. 22 tanks. from 2.5 up to three 55s..... :)

Was given a 10 gallon on Xmas when I was 12, by my Mother.

Am turning 51. Never has stopped.

I plead the fifth on gallonnage...:)

So how did you guys get into big fish tanks?

By reading about the fish and their tank size requirements before purchasing them. That is why I still own mine and you had to give yours up. By the way, in all those years of "collage" they didn't teach you how to spell it?

You are just a little ray of sunshine aren't you.:chillpill:

I started 3 years ago when I found a 10 gallon hexagon that my sister was throwing out. I bought a Bala shark thinking it was an actual shark lol. I then searched online, found out they grew bigger than the tank and bought myself a 2nd half 4ft tank.
I loved this tank and really got the bug which lead to a 90 gallon 5ft with a mix of terrapins and fish. It was around this time I stumbled across monsterfishkeepers while searching for worlds biggest tank. I found my way to the DIY section and saw posts about plywood tanks which are unheard of in Ireland. i thought it would be a great challenge as I had never built anything remotely like this before. I now have my very own 220(uk) gallon 6ft by 3ft ply tank all because I bought a 2inch Bala shark... Who knew :)

Mother of all yard sale finds--$85 for a 55 gallon tank with two pacu, four oscars and two plecos
That's the kind of fish owner that makes me sick. Keeping 8 fish that can possibly grow to a huge stature if given the right tank and conditions and not in a 55G...........

Yeah, the 15" pacu had difficulty turning in that 12" wide tank. One of the oscars was already dying from HITH. The other oscars and the pleco lived a few years more. Even with great water parameters, their lives were shortened by the horrific conditions they grew up in before we got them.

You must be a pacu expert.

This seriously made me laugh at loud like a retard for a couple minutes lol.

I feel like A LOT of peoples "big tank adventures" start with pacus lol... I know the same happened to me and I am currently in the process of setting up a 300 gallon for my pacus. I just love the little guys i couldn't stand to let go of them!
