How i got into big tanks.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I started with a 4 footer (55gallon) about 18 years ago. Within a year I had 2 four footers and a 7 footer in my bedroom, with my bed somehow squashed in between. Surprisingly my parents never bothered. Sold all those off once I moved out and discovered girls and booze, but then got back into a small saltwater set up about 10 years ago. Moved to a bigger house with my current fiancée and got a 6 footer promising her that it would be plenty big enough and I would be happy with it. That lasted 2 months before I had, in her words "tanks everywhere". Sold all except the 6 footer and started planning my current 8 footer (240g). I was absolutely certain I would never go bigger. I've had it now for 2 months and love it. One random conversation the other week with my fiancée led to her saying without any prompting on my part that she'd be ok with me having a tank that took up the entire wall. The seed has been planted and I can't stop it now. Damn it. That's one of the reasons why I love her. She knows what I need.

I got into big tanks via MFK. Reading all the threads on huge awesome tanks....

I got into big tanks after my first deployment to Afghanistan. IDK what it was but when I went to the pest store with my dogs I saw a discus and fell in love. I started with a 49 bow front had that for a week then I bought an 80 then I found peacock bass last month and set up a 30g and a 150 g. In the 30 I have 3 mono bass and 2 unidentified in the 125g. I feel when my day gets rough my tanks are there to get my mind of things

Had little crappy tanks as a kid. After college had a 20-30gallon with mixed fish but I watched my goldfish grow from a feeder to a giant over the years. Gave it up once I started having kids. A Lfs was going out of business and I talked my husband into a 60 gallon tall. Lfs "threw in" a baby oscar, lace cat, 2 albino tin foils, and a big silver dollar. Within the week- I went back and got a 75 gallon "for the bar" we were building. I had it up and running right away. Then I talked hubby into a 125gal- IF I would sell the 60 and 75. We ran all 3 for many months, but maintaining the 60 and 75 was tedious so I sold them. 125 alone for awhile. Big cichlids and a clown knife over a foot long now.....so, I got onto mfk and found a 260 gallon acrylic for sale 6 hrs away. Hauled her home and here we are (: still "trying to sell" the 125 but in the meantime, it makes an awesome grow-out tank for my baby oscar and green terror (:

My parents still won't let me get a bigger fish tank I want a arowana, My favorite fish of all time.

I started out with a two gallon hexagon tank for some bluegills then I bought a 20 gallon fish tank for them and some goldfish. I then moved the goldfish to a 10 gallon fish tank in my bedroom. Then someone gave me a free 20 year old 75 gallon fish tank and I moved all my fish there. The fish lived there for a few years but were killed off in some die off event. Then eight years ago I bought a few goldfish and reset up the old 75 gallon tank. A week ago I built my first home made 30 gallon acrylic tank. My plans now are to sell of some of my tanks and build a 475 gallon to 718 gallon acrylic fish tank for my next project. Once I get done with that I would like to build a cement fish tank with a giant viewing window if I'm able to.

the GF bought me a 10 gal tank 8 months ago. I realized the fish I liked would never fit in that tank. and since then I purchased a 29g 55g and 135g. (and I still am going to want a bigger tank within a year or so) she loves going to the fish store and watching the fish as well so shes not too upset about it. but she didn't realize what she was starting lol.
