Some1 who still calls walmart wally world. Respect points max. I always hate going to the fish aisles at the remaining walmarts who do have fish, it's sad really to see how they treat their fish...

When I was little my uncle really got into fish. He was my moms twin and they were close. He was single and had a good job so he had a basement fish room and a bunch of big display tanks. The crowning moment was when my cousin and I went to his house to see the fish. We walked in and immediately found the squishy floor. The system in the living room was a stand with a 240 on top and a 180 on the bottom. The 180 blew a seam and was 1/4 full and falling. It had 24 red belly piranha about 6 inches or so. My uncle panicked and began scooping them out and throwing thwm in the 240 above. After my cousin and I screamed "oooooohhhh" the eighth time he realized something was up. What was up was his 30 inch giant snakehead eating the piranha as they hit the water. Its belly was swollen but apparently it loved latin food. That snakehead made me fall in love with monster predators for ever. It has now been 30 years and my life has focused on aquariums and fish(hobby, three degrees, and working on a PhD now in zoology).

Thank you uncle johnny, you changed my life.

2 years and 2 months ago I got a 6.5 gallon tank for my Bday...I loved it, then I got a 10 gallon with my birthday money a few weeks after... I loved my fish, then for chrismas I got my firsat "real" tank... a 36x18x24 65 gallon aquarium... I put 1 oscar in it, I didn't clean its tank much an it eventuly died at about 8 inches from hole in the head... then I got a new oscar... then I got a 29 gallon a little while later... the I got a 75 gallon on my next bday... then a 36 galloin bowfront fo chrismas and a 120 48x24x24 about 2 months ago for my bday:headbang2... I consider my 75 gallon semi big, and my 120 gallon big.. so my first "big tank": was aboiut 2 months ago and my first semi big tank was a year and 2 months ago and my first real tank was aboiut a year ago... the replacment oscar for my 65 gallon was given away beacause I got a MONDSTER 14 inch oscar that came with the 75 gallon i got on creslist... so my first "big tank" was 2 months ago...

So how did you guys get into big fish tanks?

Mother of all yard sale finds--$85 for a 55 gallon tank with two pacu, four oscars and two plecos

That was the summer of 2005.

The 300 gallon tank is too small for them

We are in year three of a big tank upgrade for them. We still haven't finished the building project/upgrade. Old pic of their eventual new home.

I think the Amazon river is about right for pacus.....

No but seriously pacu mom I respect your willingness to grow with your fish and dedicate so much of your life to them, its absolutely amazing, some would say a 300 is fine, obviously you want better for them as they deserve it. Can't wait to see that tank finish!
