what happened to feeder guppies

Most of the non-gold-fish, non-rosy-red feeders I am seeing in my LFSs now-a-days are feral mollys & platy, swordtail mixes...

They are more commonly gone wild in run down or abandoned fish farms here in Florida(where most farmers go to collect feeders). The guppies that have gone feral are not as hardy so there are less of them in the mixes.

i just use the fry i cant get rid of every 2 weeks my green terrors spawn and same with my jds so i have lots of feeders lol then i know im not contaminating the rest of my tanks

Alot of the fish stores here, family owned or big box use a big central filtration system for all their tanks, so if the feeders are diseased, all the fish are. I have been feeding live feeders for 20 years and have never had an issue with parasite or disease introduction.

You could just set up an over filtered 10 gallon tank and quarantine the feeders for a week or two. Plus feeding them good foods will add more nutritional value to them.

people started calling them endlers and asking 2 dollars eack....lol

Too true. I see them all the time labled as "endlers" and going for more than fancy guppies do, lol. I would just think, "Didn't these used to go for 10 cents a piece as feeders?"

none here either, I heard that the feeder guppies were dying off too fast, and rosies, and goldfish were more durable.
