For Those of You Running Drip Systems

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
What is a drip system. I am unfamiler with this. Is it a bio wheel like marine land to go small in microns instead of a diatom system once a week or so? I am slow sorry.

Nevermind I feel slow there is a web address. Looks like something I have installed in a house before. I can get at a local plumbing supply as a whole house filter at wholesale prices. I dont use water filter for new water. I just use a contaner and let the water settle out with a power head and Carbon ammonia remover a net bag with ceramic media from a working tank. I use peat moss to get water quality to where I need it. Then I filter out with a diatom filter right into my tank. Works great for many years. I seem to have new and old ways of doing things. They have been economical and Never need to replace anything.

I just use a pair of the Dupont whole house carbon filters...... Round $10/2 pack @ Wally world or the hardware type stores. I try to change them every month. No Chloramine here though.....

Most of heavy metals will just settle out. You can use a binding agent I swear again my potasium permagante to work in new water. The filtration is a good I dea but Not sure why peple with large tanks need so much fresh water. A larger tank if set up properly should require less matanence. I have a 125 that I never have to change the water in and it is stocked with fish. My filtrations system cheap and effective however. I was thinking plumbing in a whole house filter by my methods work and I never add tap water directly to the tank. There are many bateria in the water from the tap. I like to cycle my water before addin to the tank. Plus I add salt water and my salinity would be off.

I get mine at HD for about 11 bucks for a 2 pack

What filter do you use and where did you get it? I am putting all the pieces together for my system now, purchasing as I have the money for it. If all goes as plan basement should be finished and system should be up by summer.

Where do you guys buy your 10" cartridges? Cuious to see as I get them from Amazon.

I have a 3 stage drip system (HMA) just like this: http://www.devotedly-discus.co.uk/acatalog/Blue.html and run:
1 x prefilter, 1 micron
1 x Pentek ChlorPlus-10 Chloramine, 1 Micron
1 x Pentek Cbr2-10r Carbon Block Multi-media

Collins water products it's in the UK

Don't buy the standard HMA cartridges as they all have Kdf media in which contains cooper

Buy the 7 sets so 7 x 3 of the RO pre filter cartridges the cost £51 including delivery for 7 sets

What are the nitrates in the heavy stocked tank you never change water on

I only ask as no matter how good your filtration is the only sure way to get rid of nitrates is to add new water

I'm just interested what the nitrates are on a tank you never change water on

Unless you also have lots of plants which is not poss on a ray tank
