my last midas came from oddball express and i have had fish before from him and have never had a problem, the last midas i got he mailed me a picture first before i bought him, i only sold it on as it was a male i wanted and it turned out to be female.

Get a hoga, an amarillo or something special. The bigger the better. Insist on size and on sex ( to the best of vendor s knowledge, of course )
 
I cant believe i forgot to mention. I also have two male hogas, a male chancho, male lyonsi, male amarillo and male isletas. Im the amphiqueen for a reason :)

ok....well I have waited it out, and came accross a lovely big midas today thats been handed in....this guy is a good 12in at least....prob nearer 14! I watched it carefully in the sump tank at the shop, and saw what I believed to be male papillae...well....now I have it home and am having a better look, it appears slightly different to the devils papillae...its still long and fairly slender, but has a more square end to it....and the devil is following it around like a sheep, but showing no aggression at all...he keeps doing the odd slow very pronounced "shimmy" movement...I am beginning to think the new beast may in fact be a female :confused:....if so then I assume she will have to go back? :( I don`t want a battlefield in the tank, and I assume as has been said...this is very likely to be the outcome!....has anyone got any pics of big female midas cichlids showing their papillae? not out of water...
