Gifted 125 with red bellied P's

Yes exactly F1, because my fish cant produce enough NO3 for the plants.

If saving 10 minutes a week and $50 a year is that important to you, youre in the wrong hobby.

10min/week>40min/month>480min/year=8 hours/year saved on wc.

Dechlor+gas to heat water+water+bw extract+sewer disposal fees* @90gal/week w/o pothos wc vs the 40gal/week wc w/ pothos is 50gal of water saved per week>200gal/month>2400gal/year is my calculated gallons saved w/ Pothos, which is apprx 300$ annually, and for a 15$ one time investment I would just say it's smart!

Btw that's just one tank, I still have another 140gals (600$saved/year)

Guess I'm in the wrong hobby for being more efficient and saving money.... Silly me!

:D

Thanks guys, was looking at your thread vet and was going with sponge filters both rigged like yours with the T- valve. though my big air pump has 4 outputs, so will be doubling that. I hope I can get this fish soon. I may keep bare bottem with a driftwood centerpiece. I have been reading up on them plus hanging out with the fish with him. I have learned they are nothing like they are interpreted to be

A good dw centerpiece is a great idea and looks great with blackwater , it will help comfort them and also look more natural, never liked the bare tank look unless your way overstocked. And 2 tvalves into one will be powerful!

Yes they are very skiddish creatures, piranhas have a huge misconception when it comes to being vicious killers, but when cornered or hungry and in large packs they can be somewhat furious. This is what makes them appealing in aquariums, to maintain such interesting creatures with razor sharp teeth is a fun and rewarding challenge! And at that size only big once a week feedings are necessary!

Can't wait for your updates!

Are you seriously trying to argue the little numbers of running a tank?

There are more important parts to this hobby then saving some time and money on water changing. Like you could save money on feeding cheap pellets or using a smaller tank, but you spend that loot to give the best to your fish because that's what this hobby is: trying to gibe our fish he best environment we can. I know you care about your fish, I guess Im just confused why youre so opposed to water changes.

Five 9" fish willmake a 125 look pretty full. I'd wait to see if they have enough room before putting in the DW. Just a thought.

Also, if they're that big, they've been in captivity for a while, if not bred in tank. I wouldn't be too worried about them being overly skittish. They might be, but most captive grown +8" fish I've seen were pretty mellow. Black water can help but it was too much of a hassle for me to keep doing. Monitoring pH levels and making it got to be too much pain in my ass. My skittish fish, I'd just put a small light fixture on the tank. Like one 24" light on a 4' tank.

I think the best way to get your fish comfortable with you, is to spend time in front of the tank. Pull up a chair, have a beer and bond with the fish. Most guys won't understand, but most guys aren't like piranha guys, amirite?

F1 can do what he wants i dont know why your arguing with him over him saving his own money:screwy::screwy::screwy::screwy::screwy::screwy:

alright guys, no point arguing over that, everyone has different approach and water cost differently at different places, some use additives some don't so there's no right or wrong. as long as you put the fish's well being @#1 which is the most important part it's all good. if you can save a bit money here or there, it's a plus.

I like the idea of using pothos since it reduces nitratates and also prevents algae growth by reducing nutrients.
One just shouldn't neglect WC completely, since there will still be growth-hemming hormones and some nitrates in the water. But that's not what F1 VET is doing AFAIK. So let's get back to topic. :)
