OXFAM: "100 richest people could end world poverty"

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
A nice deflection but what I said is still true. How are you going to equalize wealth without a large central power?

RIOT IN THE 'BURBS?... if WE cant be rich make them poor....:ROFL:

You are not. Pure and simple. May such power originate from whatever source, or legitimacy. Without it, there is no way.

But, as power breeds greed, sooner or later, the wheel simply turns one more turn and we are again at the start.

Maybe, or be slaughtered in the streets. Remember what I said about revolution and its real meaning ;)

And what does that achieve? You will replace one group of people with another group that will do the same thing.

This whole thread is politically charged. Doesnt matter how high level we try to keep it. How can you have a conversation on redistribution of wealth or the death penalty without sharing a biased/questionable source or opinion?

I disagree with you. The issues can and should be debated without getting into politics. The issues can be discussed as a matter of principle or what you want to call it.

And, quoting you, at a ' high level'.

And i would ask you to maintain it at that level. If not, it is my responsibility.

My take(s):

Distribution of wealth goes against human nature. Of course people want what others have and frequently feel (possibly justifiably) that they need it more or would spend it more wisely. The fact that they either didn't have the opportunity or take advantage of them doesn't phase those who want. There will always be the haves and the have-nots, but the "give me that" people are seldom willing to use force when they have the majority and think they can use "democracy" to take from others. Conversely the wealthier minority is always willing to use force to protect what is theirs. Survival of the fittest dictates those willing to use force will always overcome those who can't or won't.

Like Ben Franklin said: "Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote." Liberty will win..

Or Margaret Thatcher - "The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money. "

As for death penalty, it's a non issue for the most part. It could work if utilized properly, but it isn't and costs way more to have a death penalty than not. Either have a system and use it A LOT and be willing and diligent to do the best possible to prevent wrongful people, but also be willing to accept that mistakes will happen. OORRRRR just don't have a death penalty. Either would be fine, but our current system is somewhere in between so it doesn't work.
