I bought my first clown knife the other day. He is about 6" long and I got him for $15. The store has been feeding him live food but I've got him to eat pellets(NLS megafish and hikari carnivore) since day 2 that I've had him. I'm growing him out in my 75 but he will be moved to my 180 when he gets bigger and maybe into a 1400 gallon pond during summer. My questions are the following:

1: as they get older/bigger do they gain or lose spots? How can you tell if there is any potential for having tons of spots?

2: How do I know when he is full? Is it when that area(I'm guessing his stomach) behind his head swells up?

Thanks for any info and of coarse here are some pics of the guy.

Sounds like you're off to a good start:) To answer your questions...
1. Their spots usually stay the same. There are times where it may "flower," but there's no real way of telling if that will happen.
2. You got it.

Well from what ive read they gain sposts as they get bigger... But its not gonna be a spot for every inch... More like if he has 11 now... He POSSIBLY could have 13 as an adult... So not very much and there is no way to tell... As for feeding i can always tell because mine will kinda loose interest... Pluse his stomach is bulging so ya you will know

when i purchased mine at 5" he had exactly 3 spots only on one side, he is now at 10" with 16 spots.
I have another ck but like tiller said he started with many and only has a few more spots since.

Mine has 7 spots on one side and 8 on the other but the eighth spot is wry small. So maybe it will grow in.

Theu can gain additional spots as they grow.and yes the little swelling behind the gills is his stomach, just feed till theres a nice bump, my RCK was a giant pig for food.

yeah mine really like pellets but i can't really get him to eat meaty foods because of how small his mouth is.

very nice clown knife... lots of spots.. and very happy to hear he is off of live food already..good job!
