Waiting for a letter to be delivered??

USPS is a broken enterprise. Needs serious debureaucratization. Give it to the private sector to run. Sell it to the highest bidder (UPS, FedEx, or?). Treat it like a business. Run it like a business. Profit like a business. Why do we need the Feds handling our mail delivery?
 
The Feds running it?...Has that been a problem before?
 
40 something cents to get a letter across the US in a few days still seems like a bargain to me. Might cost a little more to drive it there myself...

Bargain yes. But at what cost? It's unsustainable. $16 billion in losses for 2012. $5 billion in 2011. $8.5 billion in 2010. Any other business would have gone under. What's gonna happen to these billions in losses? It's gonna sink us even more. Something needs to be done.
 
Side note,my mail does not arrive untill damn near seven pm most days.It used to be here by four at the latest.
 
All those losses you mention fall on your taxes..
