And perhaps the fact that so many people would rather send an E-something rather than a letter might have more to do with losses than inefficiency. Of course being required to fund pensions for a ridiculous amout of time might be a contributing factor as well. Go ahead and privatize, see how much Fedex or UPS will charge to deliver that letter.

Every day I go from the mail box stright to the recycle can, it's a waste.

Why stop with the post office, think of all the money we'd save if the same logic was applied to congress.Bargain yes. But at what cost? It's unsustainable. $16 billion in losses for 2012. $5 billion in 2011. $8.5 billion in 2010. Any other business would have gone under. What's gonna happen to these billions in losses? It's gonna sink us even more. Something needs to be done.
I'd rather pay for that service voluntarily when I need to send a letter than pay for it with my taxes.

Tell me again how much you like paying for it after a cheap alternative is no longer available and they start charging for sending those emails and e cards.
I'm just glad I got all my wedding invitations sent out when it was still cheap (relatively)...
