How to tell Retroculus Xinguensis from Lapidifer at 2"?

Got pics? I was affraid to get them from Rapps cause I seen they were lapidifer and xinguensis mixed in his tank and didn't want to get lapidifer by accident lol. Hopefully it didn't happen to you though

yea, check my thread in my signature. but i contacted him and he said that they came shipped to him seperate and labeled and he has them in tanks seperated and labeled. but i pretty sure the one i got is a lapidifer.

Yeah that's def lapidifer.. If he is telling the truth then his shipper mixed them up because the pic on his web page that says 'xinguensis' has a pic of 3 retros and the middle one is the only one that is xinguensis.. Rest are 100% lapidifer. So from that pic right there I could tell they were mixed and that's why I decided not to take the chance lol. Don't get me wrong I love my lapidifer but I have enough of them lol.

yea ill let him know. and im not that upset about it both species are stunners (althought i do want a xinguensis as well) when adult. what interests me about this fish unlike all of the other eartheaters i have that he seems to really slam into the sand with some force when he sifting sand for a fish his size unlike my others eartheaters that sort of gently sift sand.

Yes they do have that trait of 'slamming' into the sand, my lapidifer do this now and they are about 5.5"- close to 6" :)
