How to tell Retroculus Xinguensis from Lapidifer at 2"?

Orino, so how does sexing work? Would u need to vent them or there's special characteristic male have that female don't or visa versa?

Venting is one way to sex them, but it is very very hard up until the fish are adults. Another way is too watch their behavior, you will see males flaring up on the females and really chase and nip the males. Males get larger then females and females have a more "slender" body.

Not from anything I read or observed. Males dorsal and anal fins are much longer then females aswell.. Best way for me to sex fish are just to watch them for a while and observe their behavior.

Yes it takes a very long time. I've had my first group of lapidifer since may and I received them at around 3-3.5" and now 9 months later they are 5.5" possibly 6" but the growth rate is so slow its gonna take tons of patients lol. And I feed them good, they have been in a 180 gallon tank and fed 4 times a day with a weekly 50% water change. So it's not like they were no getting enough food or water changes lol.

Wow that sure is slow but it's okay as long as they eating good and growing then it will pay off sooner or later when u get them to breed.

Yes patients is key with these guys lol. I'm grabbing 6 more xinguensis Tuesday, hopefully with the group of 8 ill have a pair lol
