About two weeks ago I noticed his upper lip was white as if he had hit it on some driftwood or a rock. The next morning it was thick and black. A couple of days later it started to flake and split and part of his lip was hanging off. Now, as you can see from the picture, half of his lip is gone (the white you see are his teeth) and he has white stuff coming out of his face. He won't eat anything (it's been about 9-11 days) either. His color is fading and I assume he's dieing. I have been treating the water with aquarium salt and PimaxFix by API for about 6 days. It's for treating fungal infections and the such. He doesn't seem to be getting any better. Any suggestions? Thank you.

Oh man that looks bad. I know a lot of people here raise the temp of the water. I would continue the other medications. Sorry I couldn't help more and I hope he pulls through. It's a good looking fish. Good luck

I'll turn it up a bit. He's big (10 inches) so hopefully that will help with the fasting. He doesn't look goog though. Thanks for the help.

Looks like a case of duck lips... possibly... if nothing is working and he's still oozing puss. I lost a large festae to this a few months ago. My guy didn't last 9-10 days though. Usually they go fast when they get this bacterial infection. I've never been able to cure it... but the advice is to actually lower the temp to stop the bacteria from multiplying and use metro. Good luck... you may have to euthanize. Sorry.

Hopefully I'm wrong and its just a typical bacterial infection.... don't understand why meds won't work.

Yeah he's still oozing out of his face in a few spots. Still won't eat. How do you know when it's time to euthanize? He's still seems strong but how long can he go without eating? Thanks

This is Columnaris aka Flexibacter, Mouth-Rot/fungas ect.

Do not increase the temperature!

This is one instance where you want to drop the temp to around 74-75F. This bacteria grows poorly below 76F
Do a large 75% water change and gravel vacuming. Kanacyn (kanamycin) is a great choice or use both Maracyn and Maracyn 2 together but they must be used together. This will kill your fish if you don't act quickly. Treat the whole tank. Follow the directions on any medication you use. These will kill your bio-filter so you must do frequent water changes while treating and afterwards till they reestablish.

Your fish can go a few weeks without eating, treatment is key here.

Good info, thanks!

Act quickly and reasearch Columnaris for additional info. Keep us posted on results. Good luck I hope you save it.
