Biggest tank on the 2nd floor?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I had a 125,
2x 90 gallons
2x 40 breeders
And a 20long on a 6th floor apt.

Let's just say I didn't sleep much.
I got a 150 gallon later on and was afraid to even fill it up.... neeedless to say I moved. The building was old and had moisture/water issues so I didn't feel it was up to par. Every crack in the walls freaked me out once I started noticing them. Lol

HOWEVER I've seen much more water on much higher floors. BUT the buildings look to be in better shape than mine lol

I have a second floor apartment. In one room I have a 125, 50, 75, and 26g. In another room a 90g. I pray every day that I don't have a leak.

I've had a 5x2x2' 150g. I'd be reluctant to go any taller than 2' on anything other than a concrete slab floor without additional reinforcing (depends on the construction of the floor obviously). It is the height that is the main factor not the gallons, provided the weight is distributed evenly. I'd have no problems keeping a 500g tank on a second story floor if it was only 18" high....

I kept two 150 gallons and 1 180 in my apartment complex and that's after I had a 150 blow up and get all the floor boards wet. All tanks were glass too. It was kinda scary the amount of movement initially but u can get used to anything.

In my old house I had a 180gal, 3x 55gals, and a 20gal. All on then second level.

I have since decided no more stairs with my 180gal. Now I live on ground floor.

i would say all depends on the structural of the house or apt.. if the beams in the house are old i wouldn't suggest anything bigger then a 220 gal.. if it was an apt complex with concrete floors then hell, go all... max i would say 500gal.. i had a 92 burst in my old house which sits on the corner of my living room.. had 100lbs of sand and filled with fish inside, and an eheim 2260 bucket for filter.. not much load but i guess i didn't level the tank correctly so it burst on me. you can imagine 100lbs of sand in your living room floor looks like after it bursted?? good luck with your thinking..
