here is my hydrolycus tatauaia. I had him for 11 months now! i got him around 4"( i think) and he is a little over 6.5". He has been a great fish. He's not skittish at all and is very up front with me. Also, he follows me around and comes to the top of the tank when i come by. however, he was shy when i pulled out my iPhone camera so he wasn't very calm taking food from me. anyways, here is the video and some pictures.

these first two were taken on the day I got them.

When I had to move my tanks out he had to bunk in a 50 gallon tub with WAY to many fish including two cichlids which nipped all his fins and stressed him greatly. the cichlids(JD and BP) are no longer with the payara. his fins grew back but the red has not filled in now

here are the most recent pics of him(taken 02-16-13)

Cool video. My armatus lets me hand feed too, but he doesnt know where the fish ends and my fingers start, so I only do it for "show" when company is over.

when i was selling my tats i actually got bit right through the meat on finger by the biggest one. so be careful :p mine never took food from my hand but my largest gatf did every day without hesitation. cool video tho.

Good looking payara and the tank looks beautifully done.Whats with the one picture where the Tats tail looks like its been through a vegematic?

Cool vid! Don't think I've ever seen a hand fed payara before. Be careful! lol

Thanks Isde....that explanation didnt show on my phone for some reason.

Thanks guys! I would reply direct with quotes but my phone won't let me, so I got him from a LFS called Aquarium Adventures for $90 and no I have never been but by him. He normally takes food very aggressive and I've even taught him to jump out of the water to take food.
