Good for you and your success with him. That price is about what they go for these days when they are around.Have you ever thought about getting a few more and keeping a small group?

Thanks dude. I've also had the impression that they fight(yes, no, sometimes?) because when I had a black bottomed tank it tried to kill its reflection. And when they were in the display tank they fought(then again there were 6 of them in a 45 tall).
I have some questions too. In the same 180 gallon tank, I have the 6.5 redtail payara and a 6" achara catfish. Will the achara outgrow the tat and eat him?
Achara cats can hit 2'+ in aquariums. Down the road when the cat grows, he could possibly eat your tat. Right now at 6" you'll be fine for a long time. I would love to add an achara cat with my armatus.
Ok cool. And how about a 5" clown knife and the payara. How long before the knife can be a threat to the payara.

Depends on the temperament of the CK. If he's a prick he could already be as bad as those cichlids you moved. If he's chill, he may never be a thread.
So far he is pretty chill. He is in the 180 with the payara now an he just minds his own business and hangs out with my ornate. So far the only time he has fought was when his territory was challenged. I'm prepared though to give him away if need be.
