i was wondering why uarus bite driftwood i have read somewhere that it helps their digestive system is this ture? mine loves driftwood and she leaves some pretty big marks in it. always grazing throughout the day eating driftwood 
Great question! Uaru are vegetarian no? Perhaps they can see some tiny bits of algae growing and are nipping it off. Maybe they are like wood eating panaques, and get some benefit from wood in their gut. They probably have a longer gut than a typical picivorous or insectivorous cichlid.

This is what I think too... do you supliment their diet with vegitable matter or algea wafers? Mine love lettuce.... can you post pics of yours?

Mine do it too.
I keep mine with my panaque and the Uaru eat everything from strawberries to white potato.
Their favorite treat is parsley.
I'm not sure if it helps with digestion. Where did you read this? It is very interesting
