How many do you have and how many ended up with deformed mouths? I'd still love to get this species, but am hoping for some new blood.

I picked up 10 in July, and believe there are now 9 left. 3 have deformed mouths and have grown very little.

The 3 largest look good, and the jury is still out on the medium 3.
I have them in a 55gal with half dozen nanoluteus, and they tend to get lost in the decor.
The mutants are always out, the normal ones tend to be wary and hide

wonder why the deformed ones are correspondingly braver, maybe they're a couple sense(Lol) short of a dollar too?
how odd.

I believe in nature the mutants would have been picked off, I think your on the right track with the lack of sense thought.
The deformed ones are still there because I figure they can act as target/dithers down the road if a pair forms between normal ones. If a mutant tries to mate, it will be culled.
And Clockwork, I think it is right to look out for, and point out deformities.
I had an adult pair of asfraci about 10 years ago with funny mouths, the male killed the female after spawning and ate the eggs, saving me the trouble of a slash and burn cull.

They're really developing into beautiful specimens. Continued success with them.
