I've never owned snakes, but I was seriously considering it once. So I did a TON of research, and from what I found; most responsible reptile owners found that "live" feeding was an unnecessarily risky method. I found many stories of snakes being blinded/cut/infected by live "feeders".

Moral/Personal feelings for the food aside; I'd say you're better off feeding dead food. And just like getting fish to take pellets/fillets; there are many tricks you can try.

There you go, thanks.

What type of lizard was it? Nearly all species of lizards can live off insects. You can feed them worms, crickets, roaches, and ect.

I had a tegu on a varied and healthy diet. Unfortunately they really should have about 2 mice a month and mine would not accept F/T

I'm sure you gave your tegu some fruits and vegetables, right? If he ate 'non-moving' fruits & veggies how couldn't he eat a dead mouse? :screwy:

Explain.

He didnt like the smell of it.

He had fruits, veggies, eggs, everything. I even coated F/T mice in egg and he wouldn't take to it. I tried a live mouse and it was gone before he was on all fours in the feeding bin

That's bizarre, because he eats non-moving fruits and veggies but won't eat a dead non-moving mouse?

Ever tried starving the tegu for a while, then giving it the dead mouse?
