thinking of switching over from africans to americans..

i know its not advised but i may leave my elec blue ahli male with me if i do the switch. so what would you guys do with CA/SA stock for a 55 ( soon to be two 55s MAYBE three ) so in the long run, if anything i can put the elec blue ahli in another 55 when i get it, but for now he would stay. so what would you guys stock around the ahli, going american cichlid wise? thinking of this:

1: severum
1: male convict
1: thorichthy meeki ( firemouth )
1: green terror


or

1: butti ( forgot the full name but yes they are african and MEAN, also was told a 55 may be to small for one? )

then again i love my africans........

right now i have:

6 or 7 metriclima long pelvics
4 OB peacocks ( maybe 3? not sure )
1 male elec blue ahli
1 (hopefully) male lithobate ( z-rock )
and a few others i forgot the name of )

soon to be getting quite a few more africans... so dangflabit.....

better Question, what would you guys stock a new 55 gallon? as i may leave this one as my african tank and new 55 just a ca/sa tank.
 
Honestly I think male Saums are too big for a 55g. For stock I would stick with fish that top out right around the 7" mark. Here are just a few off the top of my head...

Sals
HRP
Firemouth

Or could do a dwarf SA community type setup.

55 american sounds good, may have some issues with the GT once they get a bit larger but they are not the fastest growing fish and most are pretty tame imo otherwise it looks fine a little on the small side but id say its alright. personally I would go bigger for the GT but if your set on a GT get a babe grow it out with the rest of your fish you should get quite a bit of time then when his the right size upgrade or sell him =P

Hornets imo need a 6x2x2 or bigger, they get large and thick mines 14 inches and THICK!! plus they love to swim. I would stay away from one if its for 55. mean fish but no doubt mine could kill a dovii or umbee in a few seconds xD

I would keep 1 55 for africans and 1 55 for americans win/win!
