Today I was running some non fish related errands when I decided to stop by a couple of my favorite LFS. I wasn't really planning on buying anything. I was just browsing, seeing if they would happen to have anything new and different (which they usually never do) when I came across a tank with a few of these guys in it. Upon looking at them I knew that they were some type of dwarf acara or aequidens species. I havent seen anything like these guys around here since, well, forever so I grabbed this guy up. Can one of you all PLEASE help me to ID this little guy!! It was really pale and drab at the LFS but has brightened up nicely in my 40breeder with my red head grow outs and tetras. Thanks in advance for all replies. :D

Ok guys, I wasn't totally honest here. I was back in that neighborhood this evening getting my taxes done, so I returned and picked up 3 more. For 3$ a piece. I knew right away when it colored up in my tank that I had found something special. Thanks Lupin. I am extremely pleased. And thanks to you as well Brady, I think you nailed it !! Don't know why I was thinking aequidens... I guess using an old Herbert Axelrod fish atlas from the eighties isn't the best way to ID a fish...

The scientific names are almost always reclassified. That's the pain with scientific names. Just recently, several loaches had their names reclassified. I knew this was coming but it's a PITA really.

I'm a little late to the party but for what it's worth I agree with laetacara curviceps. They are very cool little fish. I have 4 Laetacara dorsigera a little too cryptic at times but still very nice fish.

Thanks guys I am pretty happy with the acquisition of these guys for so cheap.I have never seen these guys around here and they are doing great with my red heads and tetras. And yes Doug, he is very much alive. All I had was a phone to take pics with so I took one in the barely filled bag for ID purposes.
