Ok so I have a magnum 350 inlet connected to my main tank(180) with the outlet in the grow out tank(20 long). The 20 long has a DIY overflow (connected to the 75 gal sump) and a hob c4. Well it runs when I never have it kind of like a siphon. Does anyone else do this? And I'm afraid if my pump dies or I lose power and I'm not there then the siphon will dump about 50-100 gallon into my sump because the inlet in the main tanks is about half way down. Should I drill a little hole in the inlet to break the siphon when the water level drop?ImageUploadedByMonsterAquariaNetwork1363150763.369486.jpg

Im totally confused by what youre asking. anyway you can post a pic? From what it sounds like your pump dumps water from one tank to the grow out, then the grow out overflows to the sump, and then another pump returns it to your main tank?

If this is correct, I wouldnt recommend that set up since a siphon may not match flow rates of a pump and you can wind up draining or overflowing either your tank or sump depending on what failures may occur

It's not the flow rate I'm worry about. my 180 is connect to my sump with its own overflow. My grow out is pulling water from the 180 with a magnum350 then overflow to sump. My magnum still runs like a siphon when power is off. I'm wondering does all magnum keep siphoning when power is off. And should I drill a hole to cut off the siphon in case I get a power outage?

Easy solution would be to raise the mag 350 intake on the 180. That way if the power goes off the water level in the 180 will only drop down to the strainer level.

That is a crazy setup my friend. Is there really any point to the middle tank? Why don't you just set up a traditional sump plumbing setup and just run the mag 350 with the intake and output in the main tank as well?
