Purigen is a pretty good water clarifier but because it filters so well it when it gets exhausted it can slow flow. I was using one bag in my Rena and upon exhaustion it had slowed the return flow to a crawl. As long as you do regular filter maintenance and follow purigen's regeneration process you should be good to go. Though if ou could post up pics of the tank with the yellowish tinge we maybe able to suggest a better alternative. I only say that since you say it turns yellowish in about a week you might be suffering from free floating algae blooms and in that case a UV Clarifier would be a better alternative and depending on tank size and other factors might be cheaper as well.

tank is a 140g tank, and i have 2 fx5's on it atm ... and ive tried getting pics and it hard to tell in the pics but i'll post em here in a minute anyway

What about just filling the filter with floss and pads to take care of TSS and use water changes to remove discoloration. I have driftwood in my tanks and it starts to turn the water yellow in about a week if I havent done a water change. If you do regular water changes the tank should stay crispy.

yea i have used floss in each basket of both filters and it dont seem to help the clarity like im after i had when running one tray with only carbon before.... i dont know what TSS is either ? i do reg weekly water changes as well of roughly 80%

it cant hurt, I disagree with carbon only being good to remove meds. It serves many other purposes but it requires a lot more maintenance and like mentioned can leech back if your willing to constantly change it go for it imo.

Purigen would be a better choice as its easier to work with and requires less maintenance.

Different pads could help, I noticed a huge difference in water quality when I added some different ppi foam.

Well I had a BIG bag full of carbon and used it for awhile and only had to change it once every few months as I packed A LOT of carbon oin one tray of my fx5 lol.... I'd rather not spend a bunch of money on something that won't fix the issue

So what would be best ? Uv sterilizer ? Or extra canister filled purigen or carbon like mentioned above ?
