Hi Everybody,

I've just gotten myself my first Arowana recently (about a week ago). He is still only a Juvenile. around 6inch only.

However ever since i've gotten him he would only sit around on the bottom of the tank during the day and i mean literally he spends like 90% of the time during the day sitting on the bottom of the tank.

He would only swim around like a "normal" Arowana at night, when everyone's asleep and all lights are (pitch black). I feed him around 5 feeder guppies per day. He does eat all of them... however never in my sight (talking about good appetite! once he ate 7 of it). I would put in the guppies everyday only to find them missing the next morning. He will never never eat infront of me :(:(:( And because of this i could only enjoy watching him during the night in pitch black cause that's the only time he will swim

I suppose he is still stressed by the new environment + he was kept in a small bag for quite sometime already when i bought him. I dosed and aged my water well, added some black water extract today but i didn't see any improvement. Heard/researched and was adviced by LFS to dose some salt but i'm reluctant of it as i doesn't want to dose my pail of age water everytime i do WC (as i use the same water for my other fishes in other tanks and worry i might screw up the dosage of the salt when i add "new" water to the old water during WC)

I know he will need sometime to get use by himself but... any idea how long will it take for a young Juvenile Arowana to settle in?

Thank you :)

Normal behavior since ur aro is in a new environment.

1) keep lights off
2)dont fill tank too high & have a floating object on top. & cover side of tank. I heard it keeps it calm.

After a week or so, ur aro will swim normally. I remember mine would sit on bottom even window shades open

The above.

Cover the tank and avoid excessive movement in its vicinity.

Avoid the use of red clothes.

I will need your water parameters( ph,nitrite, nitrate, ammonia) and your tank size mine started eating right after the ph levels in my tank was stabilized by a piece of drift wood which is now 6.4

Tank size is 2ft tank. I know it's not enough for an Arowana but i'm using it first as the Arowana is still Juvenile (6inch)... i worry too big of a tank might stress it out. I will change to a much bigger one when he outgrows.

He is eating thou... he have got quite a good appetite... just that he's only doing it all (swimming, eating) at night when all lights are off in pitch black.

I'm not using any light at the momemt... cause i worry it might spook it.

Hmm one week or so.. so i guess my best hope is to wait another couple of weeks?

I also forgot to mention you shouldn't feed it live foods because these fish may contain parasites or ich or something else that can really hurt your arowana

Yeah i understood the risks of feeding live food... but at this size (6 inch) i don't think he will eat any other thing else? He was brought up with feeder guppies (in LFS) when i bought him.

I tried feeding him a cut piece of market prawn, properly washed and cut. But he wouldn't take it. I have bought some Arowana pellets but i'm not trying it yet cause i don't think he will eat it at such a small size? :(

Well as long as you understand they do take some time to adjust to their new surroundings and the live food you can try to feed it hikari carnisticks my two they won't eat anything else so try the hikari food but starve it for like 3-5 days and feed it that it should work because most fish can't resist eating it
